THE FIFTH ANNUAL DANIEL FURR MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT was held on Sunday, October 13th, 2013 at Connestee Falls in Brevard, NC.  After months of prayerful planning and hard work, Daniel’s parents, Sandra and Joe Furr, were joined by 70 golfers who enjoyed a nice fall day of golf, fellowship, special prizes, great food and fun for all.  They expressed hearts of gratitude to sponsors, participants, and volunteers for the $8,400 raised in scholarship funds for 12 Transylvania Co.  college students.  The BBQ awards dinner featured Gary’s famous BBQ and George’s Brunswick stew recipe.  

THE J. DANIEL FURR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND offers educational opportunities and helps to educate on the dangers of teenage exposure to alcohol.  This event brings to 60 the number of college scholarships awarded so far for a total of $37,600.  Sandra noted, “This is how we honor Daniel’s memory.  We have resolved to trust God and to work with Him to bring some good from our tragic loss while pointing to the reality of how fragile young lives are when exposed to alcohol and how vitally important it is to be ready to meet the Lord Jesus at ANY age.  Without His grace and faithfulness we could not survive this pain.  In Him we know the future is infinitely bright.”
