Dear Supporters,
After much prayerful consideration we decided to bring to a close the Daniel Furr Memorial Golf Tournaments ending with the October 2018 event which was one of our most successful yet. After hosting the 10 Tournaments since 2009, Sandra and I felt it was time. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude for all of the golfer participation, the generous sponsors, the abundant love & kindness, and the vast prayer support we have experienced over these years. It is most humbling and is so greatly appreciated! Please note and support our sponsors and donors listed at the bottom of the page.
IT IS STILL very much our desire to continue the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship Fund into the future. Since 2009, $81,600 has been raised and awarded from the 10 tournaments. This resulted in 116 scholarships for local college students offering them a chance to further their education and have a brighter future. We also want to continue to speak out and help educate on the dangers of underage alcohol use at every opportunity. Please see the Alcohol & Youth Statistics links on the right side of this page and have many conversations with your teens to educate on these dangers.
We hope that many of you will consider continuing your financial support and help us keep Daniel’s Scholarship funded. We have worked with Blue Ridge Community College to set up a web page which enables tax deductible gifts to be donated directly to BRCC designated for the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship Fund. OUR TEN GOLF TOURNAMENTS provided initial funding for the J. DANIEL FURR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND since 2009 offering college education opportunities and helping to educate on the dangers of teenage alcohol usage. Sandra Furr noted, “Our desire is to honor Daniel’s life and memory. We have resolved to trust God and to work with Him as He allows good to come from our tragic loss while pointing to the reality of how fragile young lives are when exposed to alcohol and how vitally important it is to be ready to meet the Lord Jesus at ANY age. With His grace and faithfulness, we are surviving our heartbreak and know the future is infinitely bright.”
