Brevard Couple Remembers Son through College Scholarship
Daniel Furr
Blue Ridge Community College student Daniel Furr was only 19 when he died unexpectedly in 2008. But family and friends are hoping that his name will live on through the J. Daniel Furr Memorial Scholarship recently established at Blue Ridge Community College. At the time of Daniel’s death, he had completed coursework at the Transylvania County Campus and was a week away from transferring to Western Carolina University.
So far, 116 scholarships have been awarded totaling $81,600 over the last ten years from 2010 through 2019. All proceeds were raised from the 10 ANNUAL DANIEL FURR MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENTS .
These scholarships are available to full-time students with financial need who are enrolled in degree programs (grade point average of 3.0 or above) at Blue Ridge Community College. Recipients must also be Transylvania County residents, citizens of the United States of America, and born after 1987. Finally, each recipient must be willing to sign a Pledge of Honor agreeing to abstain from using alcoholic beverages and illegal drugs during the time period that he or she is receiving this scholarship.
